I'm glad it's Biden...

Why?

  1. Longer experience in government than McCain
  2. He owns 1 house... and it's in Delaware... and he commutes to and from it and doesn't live in Washington DC
  3. He is, after 3 decades in the Senate, not a wealthy man, ie: he lives on his Senate Salary and does not turn his political power into $$$
  4. Tremendous foreign policy background
  5. Relatively enemy free... people on both sides love him

Now some bring up his verbosity... I pulled this off YouTube from one of the earlier Presidential Primary Debates. This says it all:

Re: I'm glad it's Biden... (2.00 / 5)

I wasn't thrilled about Biden at first for various reasons.  But I am definitely becoming more comfortable with the idea of Biden as VP as I learn more about him.

Obama-Biden will be an easy ticket for Dems to support.

FWIW: Joe Scarborough on MSNBC absolutely loves Biden, which kind of surprises me.  At least Obama's getting some good coverage from the MSM.

I love that clip (2.00 / 3)

I think like a lot of Americans, I'm just really learning about Biden now.  Most of us (even folks like me who have been obsessing this year) don't know every single political actor and their actions intimately.

If Biden acts like what I can see from here, we're in good shape.

This was a safe choice and it shows Obama's practical side. Biden wasn't my first choice but I trust Obama. He did'nt choose a yes man that's for sure. REC

Re: I'm glad it's Biden... (2.00 / 2)

After my initial ARRGGHHH no, what the hell does he offer, I am increasingly comfortable with this ticket (see, that didn't take long at all).  I like the looks of it and there seems to be a good balance of traits between the two candidates.

I particularly like Biden's personal eschewment of great wealth, as you mentioned.

Re: I like Biden just fine........ (none / 0)

I think, given whom he chose, it was just a question of wanting a low-key running mate without the strong positives or negatives a Clinton would bring to the ticket.  Biden did horribly in his own race, does not really have the kind of ooomph that Hillary and Obama have, and I think that was what Obama was looking for.  Given there are many ways to approach the issue of VP and that the last two we've had have been as strong as the sitting president, this is kind of a reversion to the older model of second in command.

I do hope that Hillary is able to, if she wants, become a strong part of Obama's administration; she is a remarkable person and obviously has a huge base of support and much to offer the country.
